Here’s how America Sleeps

Eight collected data from over 13,000 adults in the US from our Sleep Tracker and Smart Mattress products. We measured average time slept, sleep scores, and the amount of deep sleep and light sleep by state and city.

Here are a few of our findings:

People in the United States sleep about 7 hours and 30 minutes.
Arkansas sleeps the longest (average 8 hours, 30 minutes)
Mississippi sleeps the least (average 5 hours, 37 minutes)
Vermont had the highest average deep sleep with 25.5%

On average, people in the United States sleep about 7 hours and 30 minutes.

The amount of toss and turns per night is an indication of restlessness.

The more toss and turns, the poorer the quality of one’s sleep typically is. In the US, people toss and turn an average of 16 times per night. People in Vermont toss and turn the least with an average of 8 times per night while people in North Dakota toss and turn an average of 21 times.

We break down the average toss and turns per state in the map below.
